Russian minister who flew abroad on a business jet was reinstated in office

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Ulyanovsk Region, dismissed after flying to Nice via London on a business jet Mikhail Semenkin was reinstated in office through the court. This was reported by RIA Novosti on Tuesday, December 29.

Semenkin deprived of his post due to the loss of trust November 18, he appealed to the court on December 1 with a demand to reinstate him in office and pay his salary during the forced absence.

The official flew abroad with his common-law wife Maria Shpak, who was the head of the Cherdaklinsky district administration. The media calculated that a one-way flight could cost him 30-35 thousand euros (2.7-3.1 million rubles).

The Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region Sergey Morozov called Semenkin’s act “not a very good challenge society. ” He noted that the minister will not be able to keep his post even if “legally, God forbid, everything will be fine.”

Meanwhile, the regional anti-corruption commissioner Svetlana Yashnova noted that in this case there is no talk of corruption, since Semenkin paid for his flight himself.
