Belarus calls Trump’s signed act useless

Minsk called the Act on Democracy, Human Rights and Sovereignty of Belarus, signed by the outgoing US President, a strange and useless document Donald Trump . This was stated by the head of the information and digital diplomacy department – press secretary of the Belarusian MFA Anatoly Glaz , BelTA reports.

Belarus has more than once clearly indicated its attitude to this act, “including in the relevant substantive statements of the deputy corps,” Glaz recalled. “This, to put it mildly, from all points of view, a strange and useless document is hardly worth more attention. And it certainly will not help strengthen the sovereignty of Belarus,” he added.

The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry stressed that this is exactly what an unfriendly step and overt interference in the affairs of a sovereign state looks like.

“And, of course, the imposition by American legislators of some kind of democratic templates on other countries, when the state of affairs with democracy in the United States itself is very, very far from ideal, looks completely parodic,” Glaz said.

At the same time, he assured that Belarus “is still determined to normalize relations with the United States.”

As reported by Tut.by, the Belarus Act allows the US President to impose sanctions against officials of the republic involved in election fraud and repression of protesters. The document also does not recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the legally elected President of Belarus, but recognizes the Coordination Council of the Opposition as a legitimate institution for dialogue on the transfer of power. The act also states that the United States does not recognize the inclusion of Belarus in the Union State with Russia.
