Serbia explains benefits from Turkish Stream

Speaker of the Serbian Parliament and former head of Foreign Ministry of the country Ivica Dacic explained the benefits of the Russian” Turkish Stream “gas pipeline reports RIA Novosti citing TV Prva.

According to him, the connecting gas pipeline Bulgaria-Hungary, passing through Serbia with gas, will ensure the energy stability of Serbia. “Many pressured us not to take gas from Russia. But this is the only option for us,” he said, adding that the other option is liquefied gas, but its price is much higher than normal.

The politician explained that there are no political reasons for buying more expensive gas to the detriment of citizens and the economy. He recalled that when Ukraine had problems with gas, Serbia received much less of it, since this was the only direction from which the country received gas.

Dacic said that the launch of Russian gas was a historic moment, “on which they have been working for a dozen years.”

On the morning of January 1, the President of Serbia Aleksandr Vucic initiated the launch of the Balkan Stream, the continuation of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline to the territory of the republic. The opening ceremony took place at the fourth gas metering station (GIS-4) in the village of Gospodzhintsi near Novi Sad.
