“Let me say something more personal in conclusion: in nine months there will be elections to Bundestag , which I will not participate in. Therefore, this is most likely the last time I, as Federal Chancellor, can address you with a New Year’s speech, “she said.
In theory, Merkel can again turn to the Germans with a New Year’s speech in 2021 if the new chancellor does not have time to take office after the elections, RIA Novosti notes. In some cases, coalition talks in Germany take several months.
Earlier, Merkel promised to be vaccinated against the coronavirus when her turn comes as part of the vaccination campaign. The Chancellor said that every day there are more and more vaccinated people in the country, and more and more different age and professional groups of the population receive vaccinations. She stressed that over time, anyone will be able to supply the vaccine.
