Belarusian accused of unauthorized picket over snowman with mustache

A resident of the Gomel region of Belarus was accused of an unsanctioned picket due to the fact that he blinded a snowman with a mustache and the inscription “Live Belarus” on his site. The portal Euroradio.fm informs about it.

The man blinded the figure on December 24th. A few days later, when the snowman had already melted, a local policeman came to the Belarusian home, showed him a photo of the snowman and drew up an administrative protocol against the man. “The photo was taken by third parties: either the district police officer himself, or neighbors. The villager suspects that it was the neighbors who gave him up,” said human rights activist Leonid Sudalenko.

According to the lawyer, the Belarusian has never been brought to justice. Now he faces 15 days of arrest or a fine for an unauthorized picket.

In Belarus, for the sixth month, mass protests continue, which began after the presidential elections on August 9. According to the official results, Alexander Lukashenko , who ran for the sixth term, received 80 percent of the vote. The opposition considers the elections rigged and demands Lukashenka’s resignation from the post of head of state.
