Forecaster called 2020 warmest year in Russia on record

Scientific Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand called 2020 the warmest year in Russia for the entire 130-year history of meteorological observations. His words are conveyed by TASS .

As noted by the forecaster, record figures were recorded in all federal districts of Russia, except for the North Caucasus. “It’s amazing, just the rarest case,” he said.

In particular, the average annual temperature in Moscow over the past year was three degrees above normal. “Just imagine how big this gap is,” he said. The specialist drew attention to the fact that usually this indicator is not very variable, and explained the temperature records by global warming.

Earlier, Roman Vilfand warned Russians that in the coming years, due to climate change, the length of the seasons could change dramatically. The meteorologist also noted that the rate of global warming is now particularly high due to human influence.
