Yemeni rebels from the Ansar Allah (Houthis) movement are ready to respond to United States plans to list the group as a terrorist organization. This was stated by the head of the movement, Muhammad Ali al-Husi, quoted by Reuters.
The leader of the Houthi rebels stressed that the policies and actions of the current US President Donald Trump and his administration are terrorist. “We reserve the right to respond to recognition [by a terrorist organization] by the Trump administration or any administration,” al-Husi threatened.
On Sunday, January 10, it became known that the United States plans to declare the movement “Ansar Allah” a terrorist organization. Later this information was confirmed by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. If the movement is recognized as terrorists, its assets in the United States will be frozen. In addition, American citizens and companies will be prohibited from doing business with members of the movement.
On December 30, a powerful explosion thundered in the arrivals hall of the Aden airport in Yemen at the time of the arrival of the new government. The authorities said that the Ansar Allah Houthi rebels were behind the attack on the airport, and the movement denied these allegations. At least 26 people were killed in the attack, and over 100 were injured. The officials were not hurt.
The Yemeni conflict has been in an active phase since 2014. The Houthi rebels are believed to be supported by Iran and Hezbollah. Against them – the army of Yemen and the coalition of Arab countries, led by Saudi Arabia.
