Merkel claims Trump’s right to free speech

German Chancellor Angela Merkel praised the blocking of social networks by US President Donald Trump. She was quoted by the official representative of the country’s Cabinet of Ministers Steffen Seibert, writes RIA Novosti.

“Operators of social networks have a high responsibility to ensure that political discussion is not poisoned by hatred, lies and incitement to violence, and you can not idly watch as certain channels publish content that falls into these categories,” – said the German authorities .

Despite this, Merkel still admitted that Trump also has the right to free speech. She stated that it can be limited, but only in accordance with the law. “From this point of view, the chancellor considers it problematic that the accounts of the American president are frozen on a long-term basis,” Seibert added.

On January 7, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that Trump would be left without the social network until the end of his presidential term. In addition, Twitter blocked his account without specifying a blocking period. The reason for this was the publication of a video in which Trump addressed the protesters outside the Capitol and urged them to go home.
