Indonesian authorities confirm crash of passenger Boeing 737

Indonesian authorities have confirmed the crash of a 737-500 passenger plane en route from Jakarta to Pontianak. This was reported by RIA Novosti on Saturday, January 9th.

According to Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi,

The liner that disappeared from the radar a few minutes after departure from Jakarta airport crashed in the Java Sea.

According to him, the plane fell into the water near the island of Male.

59 people, including at least six children, could have been on board the Sriwijaya Air liner. According to other sources, there were 62 people on board.
