Work of rescuers is highly valued at CPC

Today, December 27, Russia celebrates the Day of the Rescuer. As part of the operational and technical groups, representatives of the Yu.A. Gagarin are directly involved in search and rescue operations (SAR) while ensuring the launch of spaceships and the return to Earth of international crews after orbital flight. Therefore, employees of the 3rd and 4th departments, as members of the AKP, can consider this holiday theirs by right.

The main task of the specialists is to evacuate the astronauts from the descent vehicle after landing. In order to prepare for the solution of this problem, classes and trainings are constantly conducted both on the basis of the Center and in the organizations participating in the RPS, of course, attention is also paid to emergency (emergency) situations. A similar situation, for example, happened in October 2018. During the launch of the Soyuz-FG carrier rocket with the Soyuz MS-10 manned spacecraft (spacecraft commander, Roskosmos cosmonaut Alexei Ovchinin and his American colleague Nick Haig), the second stage engines were cut off at the 119th second of the flight. The emergency rescue system was activated. At the same time, the spacecraft reached an altitude of 93 km, divided into compartments, the descent vehicle switched to ballistic descent mode and landed about 400 km from the launch site.

“The rescuers arrived at the landing site very quickly, evacuated our crew and did everything necessary to bring us safe and sound,” recalls Alexey Ovchinin. – Low bow and many thanks to everyone who is related to the wonderful holiday. We often communicate with search and rescue services. They see us off at Baikonur and meet us upon returning from space. I would like to wish them good health and success. ”
“In addition to participating in the RPS, the specialists of our unit train cosmonauts for actions after landing in extreme conditions of various climatic and geographical zones, trainings on boarding a helicopter hovering from land and water,” says Anatoly Zabruskov, head of the department for extreme types of cosmonaut training. “In this regard, the specificity of the unit is such that we prepare cosmonauts for situations that our other colleagues are trying to prevent or minimize.”
