Ukrainian ministers will hold an online battle to cook borscht

Five Ukrainian ministers will conduct live online borscht cooking battle as part of the campaign for the inclusion of the dish in the list of cultural heritage UNESCO . A message about this appeared on the page at Facebook Ministry of Culture and information policy of the country.

The competition will take place on December 22. It will be attended by Minister of the Environment Roman Abramovsky, Minister of Culture Alexander Tkachenko , Vice -Premier of Ukraine Olga Stefanishina , Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Kuleba and the Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska . Each of them will try to cook the most delicious borscht according to canonical Ukrainian recipes.

It is noted that the winner will be determined by the famous Ukrainian chef Yevhen Klopotenko. The battle will be broadcasted on social networks. “Welcome to the political kitchen table!” – reads the message of the ministry.

Earlier, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko stated that Kiev will seek to secure the status of Ukrainian cultural heritage for borscht in UNESCO. He promised to finally “put an end” to the issue of the national origin of the dish and called this process a matter of protecting history.

For the first time, the Ukrainian authorities suggested to add borscht to the list of intangible cultural heritage at the beginning October. It should also include a shirt with a flower, Borshchiv folk embroidery and Carpathian lizhnikarstvo – a technique for making blankets from sheep’s wool.
