A new type of coronavirus, previously found in the UK, was found in another country – Italy. This was reported by RIA Novosti citing the country’s Ministry of Health.
The genome of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which has been encountered in the UK in recent weeks, has been isolated by specialists at the Celio military hospital in Rome. The Ministry of Health stated that the patient and his partner, who returned from the UK for several days back, are isolated and together with a close circle of contacts.
Earlier it became known that in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia a new the strain of coronavirus is the same one that was previously found in the UK. Experts recalled that the new type of coronavirus is spreading faster than the already known, but it is still impossible to talk about its greater danger. In addition, there is no evidence that the mutation of the virus reacts differently to the vaccine.
On December 14, UK Health Minister Matthew Hancock announced that a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has been discovered in the country, which is spreading faster than the original form. The virus is more easily transmitted from person to person and therefore more contagious, he said.
