Netizens were outraged by recommendations of Ministry of Health of Ukraine to abandon lard

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine advised citizens to refrain from eating lard, butter, fatty dairy products, hard cheese, fried meat, pastries and fries. This was reported on the department’s page Facebook .

The publication states that saturated and trans fats can raise blood cholesterol levels and contribute to the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

“Try not to use lard and butter [in cooking],” the post says. Instead, it is recommended to cook food in cold-pressed vegetable oil, preferably sunflower, olive or sesame oil.

In the comments, netizens were outraged by the Ministry of Health attitude towards fat. “I demand to stop attacks on fat!”, – wrote one of the commentators.

“Since when is bacon unhealthy? Did you hit a pine tree there?” added another user.

“For fat you can in the face. And so 150 hryvnia per kilo. So harmful and so expensive”, – another citizen was surprised.

“Well, of course, this is the most traditional national food of Ukrainians: avocado, sesame seeds, olive oil, almonds, pecans, salmon. And lard and butter – ugh, not natural and very harmful,” another woman joked.

Several people have noted the benefits of lard and pointed out its ability to keep cholesterol levels normal.
