Washing powder turned teacher into one of China’s richest women

Former chemistry teacher Pan Dong has become one of the richest women in China. She is the chairman of the board of Blue Moon Group Holdings Ltd., the company produces detergents, writes Bloomberg .

About 77 percent of Blue Moon’s shares are valued at $ 8.8 billion. The enterprise is the largest supplier of washing powders in China. Dong was one of the first in the country to create liquid powders, making her a billionaire.

Initially, the company suffered losses due to the high costs of product development. However, last year, Blue Moon’s revenue rose to $ 909 million. The Covid-19 outbreak helped increase profits by 39 percent during the first six months of 2020. During the IPO, Blue Moon raised $ 1.27 billion in December.
