Couscous dish included in list of cultural heritage of UNESCO

The Arabian dish couscous was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage UNESCO . Al Jazeera reports this on Wednesday, December 16.

“Knowledge and practices related to the preparation and consumption of couscous are included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List,” the organization said in a statement.

UNESCO clarified that the preparation of couscous is a whole ceremony. Couscous has been applied for inscribed on the Intangible Heritage List by Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia, where the dish is most popular.

The couscous dish is prepared from the same type of wheat groats and served with stewed vegetables and meat, or with fish and seafood. Couscous with nuts, dried fruits, cheese, lemon and dozens of others was also added to the main types of the dish.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine intends to achieve UNESCO recognition of borscht as its cultural heritage. The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Alexander Tkachenko stated that the country intends to finally “deliver dot “in the question of the national origin of the dish.
