Iran vows to punish those responsible for downed Ukrainian Boeing before anniversary of event

Those responsible for the crash of the Ukrainian Boeing near Tehran will be punished before the anniversary of the plane crash. These promises were made by the Iranian military, according to the IRIB TV and radio company, which is referred to by RIA Novosti .

“We give our word that the court verdict for those responsible for the Ukrainian plane crash will be passed before the anniversary of this sad incident,” the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is quoted as saying.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevgeniy Yenin declared Iran’s readiness to pay compensation for the Boeing shot down near Tehran in January. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif spoke about the decision. He expressed his readiness to provide the same amount of compensation to the relatives of all victims, regardless of their citizenship.

The Boeing 737-800 of Ukraine International Airlines flew from Tehran to Kiev on January 8, 2020 and was shot down immediately after takeoff. All 167 passengers and nine crew members were killed: citizens of Ukraine, Iran, Canada and other countries. Tehran admitted that the plane was shot down by the Iranian military.
