Ukraine announced a “huge hole” in country’s budget

Ukraine was left without money, and a “huge hole” was formed in the state budget of 2020, said Yaroslav Zheleznyak, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy of the Verkhovna Rada. It is reported by “Censor.net”.

According to him, at least 40 billion hryvnia (106.8 billion rubles) is missing. He added that the state currently has the ability to pay salaries, pensions, foreign debt and finance some programs in the defense industry, but there is no money for everything else.

The politician noted that now the country’s leadership needs to somehow find money in foreign markets or cut costs.

On April 13, the Verkhovna Rada adopted changes to the state budget of Ukraine. It provides funds to help family members of doctors who have died from coronavirus. The budget deficit has tripled.

On March 31, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal predicted that Ukraine’s GDP due to the coronavirus pandemic by the end of 2020, it will fall by 4.8 percent. Without the support of international financial organizations, Ukraine is threatened with “the abyss of financial default” due to the need to pay off external and internal debts, the prime minister added.
