Women massively used petroleum jelly for beauty and launched a trend

Women massively began to use petroleum jelly as a moisturizer to maintain facial beauty and launched a new trend on TikTok. The relevant material is published by the Daily Mail.

The Korean beauty trend, dubbed “slugging”, involves covering the skin with a thick layer of skincare. The term comes from the English word slug (“slug”), as the technique mimics the slippery footprints that shellfish leave behind.

According to the users of the network, after applying Vaseline before going to bed, by the morning they woke up with a “radiant” face, and the skin became smooth and soft. “I’ll never go back to my old regimen again”, “I woke up the next morning and my face was tender as never before. I was reborn. I am a new woman”, “I was not a slug, I was a caterpillar in a cocoon, from which a beautiful butterfly emerged “,” I have been using Vaseline for two days now, and my face has become even softer, “the women shared.

The effectiveness of the described procedure is due to the fact that the main ingredient of petrolatum – petrolatum (a mixture of mineral oils and hard paraffins) – is an occlusive component. This means it minimizes water evaporation from the skin. “Petroleum jelly also has emollient properties. It fills in the gaps between dry outer skin cells and stimulates the production of its own lipid barrier, making the surface smoother and softer,” said dermatologist Michelle Squire.

Petroleum jelly is able to reduce transepidermal water loss by 99 percent, making it the most effective moisturizer, she added.

To try this method, the doctor advises, first of all, to remove makeup and cleanse your face. After that, you need to apply a moisturizing serum – this will help “fix” moisture for additional hydration. Then apply a thick layer of Vaseline and go to bed.

According to the publication, people prone to acne should not use the described method of care, as petroleum jelly can trap dead skin cells and natural oils and, therefore, clog pores.

Earlier in November, British specialists in facial skin care revealed the optimal frequency washing your face. According to the material, using cleansers multiple times a day can do more harm than good. So, according to experts, morning washing is absolutely not required, since the face does not have time to get dirty overnight after evening cleansing.
