A shark attacked a man swimming in shallow water and bit off his hand

A shark killed a 60-year-old man on a beach in Broome, Australia. He was swimming in shallow water when he was attacked by a large predatory fish, writes WA Today.

The attack took place on Sunday, November 22, at 8:45 am local time. According to the preliminary version, the bather was attacked by a tiger shark. She bit off the man’s hand, and he also received a serious injury to his thigh. The victim of the attack was dragged ashore by other vacationers. They tried to give him first aid and called doctors, but he died of his wounds even before the ambulance arrived.

The beach is currently closed to the public, a police boat is patrolling the water area.

Local residents noted that there were no such attacks in the Broome area for a long time. About 20 years ago, an attack killed a pearl diver, and there were several cases of reef sharks biting people who approached them.

Agency TASS writes that this is the second deadliest shark attack on a person off the west coast of Australia in the past six weeks. On October 9, 60-year-old Andrew Sharp died in Wheeley Bay, whose body was never found, but scraps of a wetsuit and fragments of his surfboard, which bore shark teeth marks, were found.
