From July 18 to August 11, 2024, France will almost vibrate only at the rate of the Olympic Games. “From the opening of the Olympic village until the end of the games, no cultural, festive or sports event, requiring the commitment of mobile forces units (UFM), will not be able to take place,” say Gérald Darmanin , Minister of the Interior, Rima Abdul-Malak, Minister of Culture and Amélie Oudea-Castera, Minister of Sports, in a joint statement published Tuesday, December 13.

On the other hand, during these twenty-four days, “less-scale events, usually secured by departmental or local forces, are intended to maintain themselves”. On October 25, Gérald Darmanin had angered managers of summer festivals by declaring that because of the massive mobilization of the police during the Olympic Game period (nearly 30,000 police and gendarmes will be mobilized on average Every day), cultural meetings should be “canceled” or “postponed”.

Six weeks later, after hours of consultation and multiple stands of professional organizations, managers of local authorities and parliamentarians alerting the disastrous consequences of the absence of festivals, the three ministers recognize “the importance Festivals and festive and sporting events that make the vitality of territories during the summer, generating employment, social ties, tourist attractiveness and economic benefits “.

adapt

While promising that this reality will be “taken into account”, they have just sent a circular to the prefects “setting a framework to reconcile cultural and sporting life” which covers a very large period, going from June 23 to September 8 2024.

Thus, cultural, festive and sporting life will have to adapt upstream and downstream of the Olympic Games. Beyond the period “exclusively Jo”, from July 18 to August 11, three other phases were defined, each with “specific security requirements”. From June 23 to July 17, before the opening of the Olympic village, “all festivals and events are intended to be maintained, by limiting, whenever possible, the means necessary for their security.”

From August 12 to 23, period between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, “some rare major events requiring UFM’s engagement will be able to keep after decision at the national level.” Finally, from August 24 to September 8, on the Period of the Paralympic Games, “no magnitude event requiring reinforcements of UFM can be held, with rare exceptions decided on a case -by -case basis.”
