Foreign manufacturers refused to supply Baikal and Elbrus processors to Russia

The number of devices with Russian processors delivered this year could have been significantly larger, but some of the already ordered Russian processors Elbrus and Baikal were stuck in foreign factories where they are made at a joint meeting of control committees And according to the information policy of the State Duma, the head of the Ministry of Cyphra Maksut Shadaev told.

Now Elbrus and Baikal are produced in Taiwan. Russia plans to establish its own processors production by 2028, added Shadaev.

He explained that the intellectual rights and all the developments used in processors are Russian, however, to produce them in the country, “based on topological norms”, there is no possibility yet.

The head of the Ministry of Council also noted that the share of computers and servers with Russian processors in the market does not yet exceed 3%. However, if in 2019 their number was calculated by hundreds, then by the end of 2022, there are already 15 thousand personal computers, and the servers and storage systems – 8 thousand.
