Malmed at the start of the match, Richard Gasquet managed to overthrow the world’s N 12, Cameron Norrie, Saturday January 14, to win in the AUCKLAND ATP 250 tournament (4 -6, 6-4, 6-4). The Frenchman thus won the 16 e title of his career, the first since June 2018. The 36 -year -old will reintegrate the top 50 on Monday, from which he was released in April 2021.

Le Biterrois, another 67 in the ATP ranking for a few days, erased three games late in the third set, before breaking his 27 -year -old British opponent in the ninth game. Converted his only match ball of a well-controlled volley, to win his first final since July 2021 and his first trophy since Bois-le-Duc, in June 2018.

Richard Gasquet was able to settle his second services, defaulting and at the origin of the loss of the first set. He also remained concentrated after spoiling a set at 5-3 in the second round, on the service of Cameron Norrie.

But it was only partly given, the Frenchman who had succeeded in a white game in stride. Opposite, Cameron Norrie, who had made a strong impression by beating Rafael Nadal during the United Cup at the end of December, was less sharp during the meeting.

With this victory, Richard Gasquet will go into the running at the Australian Open Tuesday against his compatriot Ugo Humbert.
