Céline Dion announces rare neurological disease and postpones her European tour

In a video published on Instagram, the singer explains suffer from a disorder preventing her, among other things, to walk and sing as she wishes.

His fans will have to wait for him a little longer. Céline Dion postponed again, Thursday, December 8, the start of the European dates on her tour, scheduled for February, explaining this decision by “a very rare neurological disorder” which notably prevents her from singing as she would like.

In a video of almost five minutes posted on Instagram, in French and in English, the Quebec star, visibly very moved, says he has experienced “health problems for a long time”. “Recently, I was diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder, called in English” Stiff-Person Syndrome “[Syndrome of the steep person]”, she explains.

This disorder, which is characterized, among other things, by progressive muscle rigidity, leads to Céline Dion difficulties to walk and prevents her from “using [her] vocal cords” as she would like. “We do not yet know everything about this rare disease, but we now know that this is the cause of the muscle spasms from which I suffer,” she continues.

The singer had already mentioned these spasms in the spring, during the previous postponement of her European tour. She had then claimed to feel “a little better” even if she happened to her “still to have spasms”.

Expected at the end of February in the Czech Republic for the European part of her tour, courage World Tour, Céline Dion again preferred to postpone her reunion with the old continent. “It saddens me a lot to have to tell you today that I will not be ready to start my tour in Europe in February,” she regrets, saying that she had “an excellent team of doctors”.

If certain concerts of 2023 are reprogrammed in 2024, others are canceled. These include her arrival at the Vieilles Charrues festival in Brittany, where she was expected for July 13, after two first cancellations. “Céline Dion’s health problem leads us to a cancellation and not a postponement that we had considered in the summer of 2024”, confirms to the France-Presse agency the director of the festival, Jérôme Trehorel, who plans to reimburse 55,000 tickets. According to him, the passage of the star in 2024 to the plows is not possible from the point of view of his turners because of the risk weighing on the events provided for during the summer 2024.

Indeed, the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, mentioned at the end of October the need “is” canceled or postponed “of cultural or sporting demonstrations due to the massive mobilization of the forces of the Order for the Paris Olympic Games, organized from July 26 to August 11.

On the other hand, all the singer’s concerts scheduled from August 26 to October 4, 2023, including the six planned in La Défense Arena (near Paris) in September, are maintained. Céline Dion had given the fifty-two first shows of the tour before the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, at the beginning of 2020. The superstar had then announced that she canceled the North American part of this tour because of her health problems.
