Mylène Farmer back with “the grip”, all strings outside

The twelfth studio album of the singer, of which seven of the twelve titles were composed by Woodkid, precedes a tour of the stadiums planned in the summer of 2023.

Preceded by the broadcasting of two videoclips – Never, where Mylène Farmer, dressed in a white combination, fleet in waves of hair, sails and arachnean creatures, and green ray, duo with Simon Buret, singer From the Aaron group -, the grip, twelfth studio album of the singer, presents twelve titles, including seven compounds by Woodkid.

The others are collaborations renewed with Moby (reinforce the stars, bottle in the sea), Darius Keeler and the Archive group (Do You Know Who I am and no longer be reborn). Green radius has been written and composed by the Aaron group (Buret and Olivier Coursier), Mylène Farmer signing all the other texts.

It is by a walk, invisible, in an elegant arrangement of Woodkid and Sally Herbert strings, that the album begins. Support that is found in the other compositions of Woodkid, with the exception of A ever, built on an ostinato (repetitive motif). This “symphonist” bias could have irrigated the entire album, giving it a unit. And it is these songs, rather in the register of melancholy reverie (invisible, that dawn is beautiful, ode to weightlessness, that I become, with its bells and distant drums, on the other hand ), quite dark, which seem to us the most convincing. In a Environment and the grip, with close themes in the texts, Woodkid introduced a more marked electro-rose.

The rest of the album is weaker. The Green Rayon Duo is far from the successes that have been regrets (1991) with Jean-Louis Murat, Les Mots (2001) with Seal, or Stolen Car (2015) with Sting, where, each time, strong vocal personalities were In contrast to the inflections of Mylène Farmer. From collaboration with Archive we can remember not to be reborn, development at the pop turn. And if the two compositions of Moby are the most dancing, their approach, which recalls the 1980s of Mylène Farmer, contains only the pale echo.

From June 3 to July 29, 2023, Mylène Farmer will be on stage for a tour in stadiums entitled “Nevermore 2023”. Thirteen concerts, for which a press release, released Friday, November 25, day of leaving the grip, indicates that “more than 400,000 tickets” have already been sold – the daily Le Parisien announces 550,000. Six of them are Complete: at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Lille, for the start of the tour; The two of the Beaujoire stadium, in Nantes; one of the two of Groupama Stadium, in Lyon; one of the two at the Stade de France, in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis); One of the two at the Atlantic Matmut, in Bordeaux. The others should receive the same welcome in the coming weeks. The craze for the singer whose career began in 1984 with the success of the song Maman is wrong is still there.
