At the start of the campaign, the government’s heading had announced its desire to form a coalition exceeding the blocks. She renewed her call, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

Wednesday, November 2, it was not until the last bulletin was stripped, a little before an hour in the morning, to obtain the result of the Danish legislative elections. All evening, the former Liberal Prime Minister, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, leader of the moderate party, which he created in June 2021, seemed in a position to play king’s makers, with 9.3 % of the votes and sixteen deputies , between two blocks unable to obtain the majority. But finally, in the night, the statement of the votes gave the advantage to the “red block”, which won 90 mandates out of 179 in the Parliament: 87 for Denmark and three for the overseas territories (two in Greenland and one in the Faroe Islands).

A victory for the outgoing Prime Minister, puts Frederiksen, leader of the social democrats, whose party arrives in the lead with 27.5 % of the votes (against 25.5 % in 2019), its best score since 2001. The score had not been so tight since 1998. At the time, the voices of the Farian and Greenlanders had then allowed the Social Democrats to win the elections on the wire. Almost a quarter of a century later, the scenario happened almost identically.

The left, however, loses six seats of deputies compared to the last legislative elections. A consequence, in particular, of the decline in the social-liberal party, which records one of the worst results in its history. The training, led by Sofie Carsten Nielsen, forced M Me Frederiksen to summon elections with nine months ahead of the calendar. It harvested only 3.8 % of votes (compared to 8.6 % in 2019). The list of the unit (red and green) also decreases (5.2 %), while the socialist party of the people obtains 8.3 %of the votes and the alternative (green) 3.3 %.

Wednesday morning, tears in the eyes, the boss of the Social Democrats – who directed a minority government, composed only of ministers of his party, since 2019 – recalled his desire to bring together. At the start of the campaign, she had announced her desire to form a coalition exceeding the blocks. Put Frederiksen has renewed its call: “Chaos is the last thing that Denmark needs,” she said.

Recomposition at the extreme right

On the right, without great surprise, the big loser of these elections is the liberal party, victim of the competition of his former leader Lars Lokke Rasmussen. He fell by almost ten points, to 13.3 % of the votes, his worst score for thirty-four years. Part of its voters joined the liberal alliance, which triples its result, with 7.9 % of the votes, while the Conservatives, who made a bad campaign, finished at 5.5 % of the votes.
