Is there still a moderation team at Twitter? Less than a week after the acquisition of the social network by Elon Musk, the signals indicating that its new all -powerful boss has decided to limit the abolition of content on the platform -yet already largely considered to be permissive to excess – multiply.

According to the American press, the “Trust and Safety” team of the social network, responsible for combating disinformation, hateful messages and harassment, saw its drastically reduced capacities: until the arrival of M. Musk, almost all team members, who have several hundred people, had access to the tools to delete a message; according to Bloomberg , only fifteen kept it. A reduction in resources that are all the more significant as it occurs a week of mid-term elections in the United States, during which disinformation campaigns are particularly active on social networks.

In parallel, Mr. Musk announced, Tuesday 1 er November, a surprising modification concerning the way in which the accounts can be “authenticated” on the platform. So far public figures could, by making the request, obtain a “proving” blue badge that it is indeed their official account and not an identity theft. According to the detailed plan by the new patron of the social network, access to this badge would pay, a counterpart to a monthly subscription of eight dollars. The blue badge was, however, originally, a safety measure supposed to reduce scams and the dissemination of false information.
