This is the second floor of the rocket of national consultation on the end of life, designed according to the plans of Emmanuel Macron. After the launch of a “citizen agreement” which will start his work on December 9 and will give an opinion by the end of March, the executive put on Thursday October 27, a “Transpartisan working group “deputies and senators who should work for a few months.

All political groups of the National Assembly and the Senate were invited to dispatch two representatives each to the first meeting of parliamentarians, who was to be held Thursday at the Ministry of Democratic Renewal of Olivier Véran, accompanied by Agnes- Firmin Le Bodo, Minister Delegate responsible for the territorial organization and the health professions.

The distribution of roles between the two ministers remains a sensitive subject. The cabinet of M me firmin-le Bodo explains that it “pilots this group of parliamentarians in connection” with Mr. Véran. In the entourage of Mr. Véran, it is emphasized that he will “copilot” this group, since he is responsible for orchestrating national consultation.

On Wednesday, the full round of the participants was still held secret, for fear of last -minute withdrawals. Some groups, in fact, defection. That of the Republicans, in the Assembly, claims not to have received an invitation card … “Verification made, no one saw this letter”, assures Olivier Marleix, boss of LR deputies. The “mail was well received”, slips Mr. Véran’s office. Especially, replies Mr. Marleix, “we would not participate. It is not up to the government to create parliamentary groups,” says the deputy for Eure-et-Loir.

Empty chair also for the senatorial right. “With this working group, the ministers are trying to embody the parliamentarians,” denounces Bruno Retailleau, boss of the LR at the Palais du Luxembourg. He made his decision “with Gérard Larcher [President (LR) of the Senate]”, specifies the Senator of Vendée.

The PS deputies will participate

On the left, socialist senators also stand out. “We will not participate in this group, declares Marie-Pierre de la Gontrie, senator (PS) of Paris. Our group tabled [in November 2020] a bill on the right to die in dignity of which I was the First signatory. It was debated in the Senate. The National Assembly debated the subject during the bill of Olivier Falorni [in April 2021]. Our position was largely exposed in the debates. It is therefore known. “
