Google CEO warns of AI’s global misinformation impact

General Director of Google Sundar Pichai has warned against the premature implementation of artificial intelligence without strict regulation. He stated that introducing AI into everyday life could increase the scale of misinformation, which can be harmful to the world. Pichai believes that society should adapt to these new technologies and work to expand AI for the benefit of all, but not without hard regulation.

One of the main concerns is the development of deepfake videos, where people can be depicted as saying words they never uttered. Pichai stresses that there must be consequences for creating such videos, and new social norms must be established to understand how to adapt to AI in everyday life.

In March 2023, over a thousand prominent personalities and specialists, including Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, signed an open letter calling for laboratories to halt training more powerful AI systems than GPT-4.

Pichai’s call for hard regulation of the industry comes as concerns grow about the potential impact of AI on society. While AI has the potential to bring significant benefits, it must be approached with caution to avoid unintended consequences. As such, Pichai’s remarks highlight the need for a balanced and responsible approach to the development of AI.
