Minetest 5.7.0 Released, Honors Late Developer with Dedicated Update

The free, cross-platform game engine, Minetest 5.7.0 has been released in honor of late developer Jude Melton-Houth, who played a pivotal role in the development of the project. Minetest 5.7.0 allows users to create buildings, survive, dig minerals, grow cultures and more. Written in C++, the game employs 3D-bibliotexes Irrlichtmt (Fork Irrlicht 1.9-dev) with gameplay completely dependent on sets of mods created in Lua language installed by the user either through built-in Contentdb installer or the forum.

The gameplay of Minetest 5.7.0 is enabled via sets of mods that are created in Lua language and installed by users through various ways including built-in Contentdb installer or via forums. The game’s code is distributed under LGPL license and resources under CC by-SA 3.0 license. Minetest provides ready-made assemblies for Android, FreeBSD, Linux, MacOS, and Windows that can be downloaded from its website.

Minetest 5.7.0 boasts multiple updates which include significantly improved card drawing performance, better quality of shadows and tonal map, and an API for obtaining information about game screen size. The game now supports rotating hit boxes for entities and development tests that were previously auto-updated now need to be installed through Contentdb.

The dedicated update to honor the late faith of one of the developers now includes a post-processing framework that has added several visual effects, including Bloom and Dynamic Exposition. These effects, similar to shadows, can also be controlled by a server and adjusted in mod enabling easier creation of new effects in future.

Minetest 5.7.0 is yet to be released on Google Play temporarily which had to be removed due to the confusion with the Android version of Mineclone. The developers are currently working on fixing the issue.
