META* Launches 128-Core Processor for Metavselnaya Work

meta* continues to share the details about the development of your own chips. On May 19, 2023, the company introduced a and processor with 128 nuclei and energy consumption of 25 watts

The first -generation chip was created in 2020 as part of the Meta* Training and Inference Accellerator (MTIA) project. The purpose of the chip was to improve the work of models of recommendations that are used to select advertising and other content in news feeds.

The MTIA V1 processor is manufactured according to the technological process of 7 Nm, has a clock frequency of 800 MHz, 64 computing units of two RISC -V nuclei, only 128 nuclei. The dimensions of the chip are 19.34 × 19.1 mm and it supports 64 GB of RAM connected by 16 channels.

META MTIA V1

processor

meta* decided not to introduce the mass processor and is now engaged in the development of the successor. The company reports that the first MTIA chip was aimed only to launch already trained neural networks. For example, for the operation of algorithms that determine which video or which meme to show the user the next in the tape. First, Meta* used graphic processors (GPU) to launch neural networks, but it turned out that they are not suitable for such a task.

However, the company released its own META* Scalable Video Processor (MSVP) – the first ASIC -solution of its own production, designed to process growing loads in the field of VPZ (video on request) and straight air. Also in the future, MSVP will be used to support new video content formats in the META*ecosystem*, including content, generated AI, and AR- and VR content in the metavselnaya.

* Meta and its products (Instagram and Facebook) are recognized as extremist, their activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation.
