Google Messages Unveils Ultra-New Image Exchange for Pixel 8 Owners

Google Messages Updates with Ultra HDR Support for RCS Chats

The developers of the Google Messages messenger are actively working on an improvement in its functionality, turning a simple application for interchangeing messages into a powerful tool of communication. The last addition was support for Ultra HDR format for photos in RCS chats, which is already available to Pixel 8 users.

The developers decided to introduce a function without notifying users. The changes were noticed by the authors of the blog theSpandroid.

The Ultra HDR format appeared in the Android 14 operating system and allows you to transmit pictures with an extended dynamic range – saturated colors, deep shadows, and bright glare. At the same time, the usual version of the photo will be displayed on standard displays. And owners of devices with HDR support will be able to evaluate all the advantages of innovations – a realistic color rendering and high contrast.

In fact, Ultra HDR is a standard JPEG format with the addition of HDR metadata. It is worth noting that Ultra HDR support is implemented only for RCS chats.

The images of Ultra HDR are not marked when sending or receiving, that is, the user will not receive any notifications of a change in the format. However, when viewing them, advanced color correction is automatically applied.

As you can see, the developers decided not to delete metadata during the exchange of photographs, which is extremely important for the further development of technology. Thus, the integration of a new function is a promising step towards improving the popular application.
