Former Motorola Employee Admits Passport Fraud and Cyber Attacks

The former Motorola technical specialist in the USA admitted that he tried to get a passport fraudulently, awaiting court for cyber attacks on his former employer. 28-year-old Andrew Mahn from the city of Derri, USA, found his guilt in fraud with passports and fraud using electronic communications. Earlier, he was charged with Cyberattacks against his former employer, Motorola. The verdict is set to be issued in March 2024.

Accusations and Background

Mahn was accused in the case of passport fraud, and in 2021 – on the penetration of Motorola and theft of data from the computer network. The court documents refer to his former employer as “company A,” describing it as an international corporation with headquarters in Chicago, specializing in the sale of radio equipment among other things.

Details of the Cyber Attack

According to data from the prosecutor’s office, Mahn worked as a radio engineer at Motorola before joining the Massachusetts Port Authority, also known as Massport. During his time at Massport, from August to September 2020, he sent phishing emails to 31 Motorola employees. These emails contained a malicious link to a fake Motorola payroll portal, allowing Mahn to steal corporate accounting data for unauthorized access.

Once he obtained user credentials, Mahn sent text messages impersonating OKTA security messages to collect multifactor authentication codes. With
