Kali Linux 2023.2 Distribution Released for Safety Research

Kali Linux 2023.2, a distribution based on the package base of Debian designed to test systems for vulnerabilities, audit and analyze residual information, has been released. This distribution is designed to identify the consequences of potential attackers and comes with an XFCE desktop, although KDE, GNOME, MATE, LXDE and Enlightenment E17 can also be used. Additionally, Kali Linux includes one of the most complete collections of tools for specialists in computer security. This includes a collection of exploits and more than 300 specialized utilities for checking safety, for example, Aircrack, Maltego, Saint, Kismet, Bluebugger, BTCRACK, BTSCANNER, NMAP, P0F. The distribution also includes CUDA and AMD Stream technologies that allow the use of NVIDIA and AMD GPUs for computing operations to accelerate passwords (Multihash Cuda Brute Forcer) and WPA keys (Pyrit).

The release comes with several ISO-images options ranging from 443 MB to 3.7 GB. These are available for architectures i386, X86_64, ARM (ARMHF and ARMEL, RASPBERRY PI, Banana Pi, ARM Chromebook, Odroid). All original developments of Kali Linux are distributed under the GPL license and available through the public GIT-Rooster.

In the new version, several upgrades have been made, including the preparation of a separate image of the Hyper-V hypervisor pre-designed to use the Enhanced Session Mode (ESM). There have also been some adjustments done to the XFCE desktop, which has moved from the sound server Pulseaudio to the multimedia server Pipewire. GTKHASH has also been pre-installed, which allows you to quickly calculate the control amounts in the dialogue with file properties.

The GNOME-based environment has also been updated before the release of 44, with many of the applications being transferred to the use of GTK 4 and Libadwaita libraries. Changes to the configurator have also been made, and Bluetooth control has been added to the quick-change menu.

Overall, Kali Linux 2023.2 comes with several upgrades designed to improve user experience and functionality. To download the latest release, users can visit the Kali Linux website.
