Banksy unveils work on domestic violence for Valentine’s Day

He chose on Tuesday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, considered in many countries as the feast of lovers, to reveal a new committed creation. The street artist Banksy has unveiled a work that seems to highlight the theme of domestic violence, painted on the wall of a building of the seaside resort of Margate, in the south-east of England.

We see a housewife with a look of the 1950s or 1960s, with a black eye and a broken tooth, while a man’s legs protrude from an old freezer, very real, posed against the wall. Entitled Valentine’s Day Mascara, the work was claimed by the artist on its Instagram account, February 14 .

Three years ago, the mysterious artist from Bristol and who works under pseudonym, had already painted a work for Valentine’s Day: A little girl pulling with a catapult on a bouquet of red flowers .

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Banksy, whose works regularly beat auction, has supported the Ukrainians. He put in January 50 serigraphs intended to collect funds for the benefit of civilians.

And he had posted mid-November on his Instagram account a video compiling his works painted in the country, including that representing an individual wearing a gas mask in Hostomel, thus confirming to be the author.
