Slackel 9.0 Distribution Released

Published release of the distribution kit Slackel 9.0, built on the developments of the projects Slackware and Salix, and is fully compatible with the repositories they offer. The key difference with Slackel is the use of a constantly updated Slackware-Current branch. The graphical environment is based on the MATE desktop environment. The size of the boot image capable of working in Live mode is 4.2 GB (i386 and x86_64). Installation on external USB drives is supported with the ability to save changes on the same drive and update packages.

In the new release:

  • The filling is synchronized with the Slackware Current branch and comes with Linux kernel 6.18.37 for 64-bit systems and 6.12.94 for 32-bit.
  • Instead of the Openbox window manager, the MATE desktop environment is used.
  • Three installation modes are offered: full with the MATE desktop, browser, multimedia and office applications; basic with a minimal graphics system, browser and basic utilities; stripped down with command line tools.
  • Updated program versions, including libreoffice 26.2.4, firefox 152.0.3, thunderbird 140.12.0, pidgin 2.14.14, transmission 2.94, GIMP 3.2.4, exaile 4.2.1, smplayer 25.6.0, mpv 0.41.0, brasero 3.12.3.
