Anthropic Offers Free Claude Max to Open Source Devs

Anthropic has announced that they will be providing maintainers and key developers of open source projects with free 6-month access to their services with the Claude Max 20x plan. This plan, which is usually priced at $200 per month for paid subscribers, includes 20 times more resources than the Pro plan and grants access to Claude Code and Claude Cowork.

Those interested in applying for a free 6-month subscription to the Claude Max 20x plan must meet the following requirements:

  • Authors and maintainers of open source libraries with packages that have over 200K downloads from directories such as npm, PyPI, crates.io, and RubyGems, or are used in at least 500 repositories or 100 dependent packages.
  • Key developers of large open source projects who have commit rights or are part of the maintainers, such as CPython, Rust, Node.js, Apache, CNCF, Kubernetes, the Linux kernel, Django, and Rails.
  • Active contributors who have submitted more than 100 pull requests to non-affiliated projects.
  • Community creators with 20 or more third-party developers who have received pull requests in the last year.
  • Repositories used in the operation of critical infrastructure (weighted 0.4+ in the OpenSSF rating).
