KDE Development Weekly Update 11 July

The latest KDE development report has been released, showcasing some of the changes for the upcoming KDE Plasma 6.8 branch set to launch on October 14th. Among the recent updates are:

  • The Plasma Login Manager now allows for automatic login in distributions with older versions of systemd like KDE neon. This feature has been implemented.
  • Combo boxes in KDE Plasma have been updated to use the active theme for styling pop-up elements, moving away from the hardcoded Breeze style settings. Additionally, menu animation has been disabled for consistency with other interface elements.
  • In Spectacle, the screenshot tool now has an option for recording sound while creating screencasts. This includes the ability to record microphone input and save audio from system applications. A blur effect has been added without using OpenCV, reducing dependencies.
  • The System Monitor now shows video memory consumption as a percentage of total VRAM, similar to RAM usage display. This feature can be seen here.
  • The remote desktop connection settings page in the configurator has been optimized for small screens, ensuring correct functionality on devices with limited display size.
  • Various improvements have been made, such as eliminating delays between adjusting brightness on external monitors and updating the highlighting style in QML applications to match the active application style. These changes can be viewed here.
