Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.3 firmware update, based on Ubuntu package base 24.04, has been introduced by the UBports project. This project took over the development of the Ubuntu Touch mobile platform after Canonical withdrew from it. They are also working on an experimental port of the desktop Unity 8, now renamed Lomiri (source).
The update for Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.3 will soon be available for devices including Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F(x)tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4/5, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, Oneplus 5/5T/6/6T, OnePlus Nord N10 5G/N100, Sony Xperia X, Vollaphone X/22/X23, Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC / X3, Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro/Pro Max/9S, Volla Phone Quintus, Volla Tablet, Lenovo Tab M10 HD 2nd Gen, Rabbit R1, and Xiaomi Redmi 9/9 Prime (source).
The Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.3 release primarily focuses on bug fixes that address issues such as problems with launching GTK4 programs, placing windows of X11 programs, playing voice messages sent via MMS, scaling the output of some Qt applications, and fixed freezes during shutdown on certain devices. It also added support for running X11 programs outside the Lomiri environment and improved work with docking stations that provide input devices like NexDock.
Furthermore, the development of Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 has been announced. The notable improvement in this release will involve updating the Morph Browser web browser from QtWebEngine 5.15.19 (QWE) based on the outdated Chromium 87 engine to the modern Qt 6.x stack. This release will ship both Qt 5 and Qt 6, potentially causing an increase in the system image size that may not fit into the reserved partition on some supported devices.
