An independent enthusiast has initiated a project called GNOME-X11, aimed at developing a fork of GNOME 50 with restored compatibility for X server. This project is not officially affiliated with the GNOME community but seeks to bring back the ability to work under the control of an X server.
Several components including gnome-settings-daemon, mutter, gdm, gnome-control-center, gnome-shell, gnome-session, and libshew have already been forked and published in the project repository. The commits that previously removed X11 support have been reverted in these forked components.
