KDE Enhances Multi-GPU, Adds Mic Check Feature

The latest weekly KDE development report has been released, highlighting changes for the upcoming KDE Plasma 6.7 branch set to be launched in June. Some of the recent updates include:

  • An added function for checking microphone settings, enabling users to record and playback recordings to evaluate microphone sensitivity.
  • In the KWin composite manager, support has been added for virtual framebuffers that interchange when using multiple GPUs (multi-GPU swapchain). Additionally, Vulkan graphics API support has been implemented in the DRM backend, which will lead to improved performance in multi-GPU setups in the future. Current performance of various GPU combinations when using Vulkan is on par with OpenGL.
  • Support for xdg portal Notification has been added to facilitate setting up and displaying notifications from sandboxed applications like those in Flatpak format.
  • Improvements have been made to the screen selection dialog for broadcasting or sharing to other systems, enhancing thumbnail visualization and displaying desktop wallpaper as a background. Check out the visuals here.
