Fedora Asahi Remix 43 Released for Apple ARM Chips

Published distribution Fedora Asahi Remix 43 is now available, specifically designed for installation on Mac computers equipped with ARM chips developed by Apple. This release is based on the Fedora Linux 43 package base and is accompanied by the Calamares installer. Originally, the Asahi Linux distribution was built on Arch Linux, but in 2023, it transitioned to the Fedora package base. This move allowed for a focus on reverse engineering and hardware support, with distribution assembly now handled by the Fedora Asahi SIG.

Fedora Asahi Remix offers functionality on Apple Mac systems equipped with ARM chips from the Apple Silicon series, including M1, M2, M3, and M4 used in devices like Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and Mac Pro. Full support is provided for Apple computer audio, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, input devices, USB Type C (USB 3.0), and MagSafe wireless charging on devices with M1 and M2 chips. However, screen connection via USB-C, Thunderbolt/USB4, microphone, and Touch ID are not yet supported.

The main user interface in Fedora Asahi Remix is KDE Plasma 6.6, with an optional edition featuring GNOME 49 also available. Versions for servers and a minimalist assembly are offered as well. Both the KDE and GNOME editions utilize Wayland, while the XWayland DDX server runs X11 applications. Graphics drivers support OpenGL 4.6, OpenGL ES 3.2, and Vulkan 1.4 (native graphics drivers for Apple M1 chips only implement the OpenGL 4.1 specification).

To run applications designed for separate virtual machines x86_64, the muvm toolkit and an emulation layer based on the FEX package are provided. This emulation supports GPU forwarding and enables the use of Wine with
