OpenWrt has introduced a corrective release of the OpenWrt 25.12.1 distribution package aimed at network devices such as routers, switches, and access points. This release supports over 2200 devices and offers a build system that facilitates cross-compilation and the creation of custom firmware builds. Ready-made firmware builds optimized for specific tasks are now available for 41 target platforms, with an increase from 39 platforms supported in the previous branch.
Noteworthy changes in this release include added support for devices such as Devolo Magic 2 WiFi next, MeshPoint.One, MeshPoint.One, and Cudy M3000. Fixes have been implemented for various platforms like airoha, ath79, ipq806x, lantiq, mediatek, microchipsw, ramips, realtek, and more. The mt76 driver now supports firmware for the MT7990 controller in the new MediaTek WiFi 7 chipset. Additionally, important updates have been made to packages like firewall4 and apk package manager.
The release also addresses several vulnerabilities, including buffer overflows, memory leaks, command execution manipulation, cross-site scripting, and memory access issues. The update aims to enhance security and stability for OpenWrt users.
Furthermore, an update to the previous branch of OpenWrt 24.10.6 has been released, focusing on fixing vulnerabilities in various components like umdns, jsonpath, LuCI, and procd, along with resolving hardware support issues in multiple platforms. The OpenWrt 24.10 branch will continue to be supported until September 2026.
