Vivaldi 7.9 Desktop Browser Released

The latest version of the proprietary browser Vivaldi 7.9, developed by former Opera Presto engine developers, has been released. Built on the Chromium engine, Vivaldi is available for Linux, Windows, and macOS platforms. Changes made to the Chromium codebase are open-sourced by the project, while the browser interface is proprietary and written in JavaScript using various tools.

Vivaldi aims to provide a customizable and functional browsing experience while prioritizing user data privacy. Key features include a tracking and ad blocker, notes, history and bookmark managers, private browsing mode, end-to-end encrypted synchronization, tab grouping, sidebar, a customization menu, horizontal tab display mode, as well as built-in email, RSS reader, and calendar.

The new version of Vivaldi 7.9 introduces several improvements:

  • Auto-hide interface feature allows all interface elements to automatically hide when viewing webpages, including tabs, address bar, sidebar, and status bar, individually or simultaneously. This feature is also available in full-screen mode.

  • Paired tabs feature enables users to open all links from the main tab in a paired tab next to it within the same window, streamlining workflow.

  • Separate window for creating letters feature allows users to unpin the message creation window for greater flexibility in placement, including on a second display. Additionally, mailing list management has been optimized.
