Solaris 11.4 SRU90 OS Released

Oracle has announced the release of Solaris 11.4 SRU 90, bringing a host of changes and improvements to the Solaris 11.4 branch.

The update, which can be installed by running the ‘pkg update’ command, introduces several enhancements for users. In addition, Oracle offers the Solaris 11.4 CBE (Common Build Environment) edition, which follows a continuous publishing model for new versions.

Key changes in the latest release include:

  • Support for disabling manual or automatic deletion of Boot Environments created as ZFS snapshots in the beadm utility
  • Addition of utime32_t and utimeval32 types to system header files
  • Support for time after 2038 in the bufmod module and the snoop program
  • Enhanced error message information in the ldm utility
  • Expanded file retention configuration with the “zfs receive” command
  • Implementation of FS integrity checks and data restoration before background block release
  • Protection against system-wide process termination when sending a SIGHUP signal to a process with ID -1
  • Improved core dump saving code for processes that crash early in boot
  • Enhanced ELF format support for section compression using the Zstandard algorithm
  • Addition of the “–unrestricted” flag to the bootadm command for password-free GRUB boot menu access
  • Updated version of the ctfdump utility for working with debug dumps in CTF format
  • Addition of the “-s” option to the devnm utility for shortened device name output
  • Addition of the gfx_private interface for loading GPU firmware
  • Inclusion of PIN code extraction from SMF properties in the ikev2cert utility
  • Implementation of the “dhcp release” command in the ipadm utility
  • Ability to specify size in readable form in blocks with the ls utility using both “-s” and “-h” options
