KDE X11 Development: SonicDE Project Advances

The latest KDE development report has been released, highlighting changes for the KDE Plasma 6.7 branch set to launch in June. The report also includes fixes for issues identified after the Plasma 6.6 release.

The upcoming KDE Plasma 6.6.1 release addresses crashes in KWin that occur during heavy input method usage and when exiting standby mode with Input Leap and Deskflow applications. Discover crashing during update installations has been fixed, along with regressions causing pop-ups to appear incorrectly and objects not moving to the Task Manager icon. Other issues resolved include alignment problems, text localization on buttons, low screen brightness settings, and clipboard desynchronization while using remote desktop. Animation performance has also been improved by utilizing the Wayland protocol Presentation Time.

Key innovations in KDE Plasma 6.7 include:

  • The old print queue management dialog has been replaced by the separate plasma-print-queue application, allowing visual management of multiple queues for various local or external printers.

  • An operation progress indicator has been added to the frozen process termination dialog.
  • The Color Picker widget now displays a hint when no color is selected, improving user experience.

  • Overview mode now allows users to switch between virtual desktops using scrolling or Page Up/Page Down keys.
  • On Wayland systems, synchronization of the stylus pointer image with the mouse and touchpad pointer is now ensured.
  • Various enhancements have been implemented in KWin for improved functionality.
