Fortran Compiler Rejoins NetBSD Base System

Twenty years ago, the release of gcc4 marked the replacement of the g77 compiler with gfortran. However, due to initial problems, gfortran was excluded from the NetBSD base image. Recent changes to NetBSD-current have enabled the inclusion of gfortran in the base operating system image once again, as reported here.

Looking ahead, the plan is to incorporate appropriate variables into pkgsrc to facilitate the compilation of programs using this system compiler. This will eliminate the need for users to install the gcc12 package from the pkgsrc repository when working with gfortran.
