Tiny Core Linux 17.0 Minimalist OS Released

A minimalistic Linux distribution known as Tiny Core Linux 17.0 has been released, designed to run on systems with only 48 MB of RAM. The graphical environment of the distribution is based on the Tiny X X server, the FLTK toolkit, and the FLWM window manager. This distribution loads entirely into RAM and operates from memory. The bootable iso image for this release is a mere 20 MB in size. Additionally, a CorePure64 version, specifically for 64-bit systems, is available at 25 MB in size. A CorePlus assembly (288 MB) is also provided, which includes various additional packages such as different window managers (FLWM, JWM, IceWM, Fluxbox, Hackedbox, Openbox), an installer with the capability to add extensions, and a set of tools for network access, including a WiFi connection manager.

The latest release features updated system components, such as the Linux kernel 6.18.2, glibc 2.42, binutils 2.45.1, gcc 15.2.0, e2fsprogs 1.47.3, and util-linux 2.41.2. The provides.sh script has been enhanced to support mirrors via HTTPS, and HTTPS verification has been included in the /etc/init.d/tc-functions script. Furthermore, the udev rules 50-udev-default.rules have been modified to provide expanded access rights for input devices.
