The Debian Project Leader, Andreas Tille, has recently published a report addressing issues within the Data Protection Team. In the report, Tille mentioned that three representatives from the team resigned simultaneously due to a lack of opportunity and enthusiasm to continue their work. As a result, the team is now without members, and the project is urgently seeking volunteers to replace them.
The Data Protection Team was established in 2018 with the purpose of coordinating compliance with European data protection legislation, specifically the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The team was responsible for responding to data requests related to the project, providing guidance to Debian developers on personal data processing, and enhancing privacy policies within the project. Individuals interested in joining the team must possess a working knowledge of data protection principles and a thorough understanding of GDPR requirements.
