PorteuX 2.5 Released: Slackware-Based Distribution

PorteuX 2.5, a distribution kit based on Slackware and influenced by Slax and Porteus projects, has released its latest version which is now available. PorteuX offers pre-configured environments with popular desktops like Cinnamon, COSMIC, GNOME, KDE, LXDE, LXQt, MATE, and Xfce. Notable features include hardware acceleration for processing multimedia files on Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA GPUs, fast 3-second Live mode loading, system image in read-only mode with additional app installations from the PorteuX App Store, support for rollback of update installations, boot mode to RAM, and network booting capability.

The project has generated 8 different assemblies, each around 600 Mb in size. For instance, the assembly with KDE is 656 Mb, Xfce is 543 Mb, and GNOME is 576 Mb.

Key changes in this release include discontinuing stable builds in favor of continuously updated versions based on Slackware Current, support for installing packages in Flatpak format and using Flathub directory, updated versions of key components like Linux kernel 6.18.2, NVIDIA driver 590.48.01, Cinnamon 6.6.3, COSMIC 1.0, GNOME 49.2, KDE Plasma 6.5.4, and further additions and improvements to enhance user experience and performance.
