The University of Paris-Saclay held the Open Science Awards ceremony, awarded in France for achievements in the field of open science. The French Ministry of Higher Education and Research presented awards in three categories: free software, open data and dissertations demonstrating the principles of open science. In total, there were 8 open data winners, 3 free software projects and 8 dissertations. Each laureate project received a prize of 5,000 euros, and the laureates in the dissertation category received 2,500 euros and a memorable prize.
Winners in the “Open Source” category:
- GNU MPFR (Multiple Precision Floating-Point Reliable Library) – a library that implements arithmetic with arbitrary precision floating point with correct rounding, based on the IEEE 754 standard. The code is licensed under the LGPLv3 license.
- HyperSpy – Python library for analyzing and visualizing complex multidimensional data in materials science. The code is distributed under the GPLv3 license.
- Qumin (Quantitative Modeling of INflection) is a package for modeling the morphology of languages, allowing linguists to analyze patterns of declension and conjugation of words in various languages. The project received a prize in the Science and Technology category for quantitative modeling of inflectional morphology of languages. The code is distributed under the GPLv3 license.
- SMASH (Spatially distributed Modeling and ASsimilation for Hydrology) – a library for numerical modeling of hydrological phenomena. The project combines conceptual, physical and artificial intelligence approaches, allowing its application to complex multi-basin systems. The project received the Jury’s Choice Award. The code is distributed under the GPLv3 license.
- NeuRon Virtualizer –
Python framework for modeling the nervous system. Simulates the electrical behavior of peripheral nerves, allowing you to interactively explore their response to various electrical stimuli.
The project was awarded in the Documentation category. The code is distributed under the CeCILL-C license.
